MoPT Student Internship Project Starts off on a Positive

The Ministry’s ICT pilot project to select Junior Secondary school students to intern with local ICT companies began on March 25 at Carmel and Charlestown Secondary. Scores of senior students and teachers attended, and the representatives from Tagman, Intellect Storm, and Brainstreet Group among others fielded a host of queries, especially about the students’ skills with art and how it could be translated into IT products like animation.

This was a healthy start to the two-week pilot project. Training Co-ordinator, Donnella Collison terms is “Proof of Concept”. The representatives from the public and private sectors will continue the exercise at the Queenstown, Lodge and St. Mary’s Secondary schools in early April.

MoPT’s Innovation Department is working with the teachers to select one student from each school for the paid Internship at five (5) Guyanese IT companies during the August holidays.
