Minister of Public Telecommunications, Hon. Catherine Hughes remarked that this is a red-letter day in the telecommunications sector in Guyana.

“As the minister responsible for Telecommunications in Guyana, I applaud this development, which comes at a time when demand for high-speed data is peaking, and will continue to peak with the transformation of our economy, and as we move into an oil and gas industry.”

Minister Hughes said the government is currently entering its ‘Decade of Development’ where connectivity and highspeed data availability will become a key driver in this regard. She also advocated for areas not yet provided with the service to be considered in the shortest possible time for a wider coverage to be achieved.

Nedd reiterated that the company GTT is about connecting people and improving the life experiences of all Guyanese. “As we bring 4G LTE to the public and we certainly look forward to rolling that out to more and more of Guyana as we get the spectrum.”

He added that persons not living within the current 4G LTE coverage areas can still upgrade their sims to benefit from the service when they are within the coverage areas. Persons can visit any GTT store locations or the GTT outlet at Giftland Mall to upgrade to this service. Those already on the network can also benefit from a free SIM card when they upgrade. Minister Hughes took the opportunity to upgrade her SIM card to the new 4G LTE service.
