The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) is pleased to announce that total communications and entertainment provider, Digicel which operates in thirty-one markets across the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific is the premium sponsor for the CTU Caribbean ICT Roadshow Guyana, from 9th to 14th July 2018.
Launched in 2009 to commemorate the CTU’s 20th Anniversary, the Roadshow initiative was designed to raise public awareness on the transformative potential of information and communication technologies (ICT) and to educate on the necessity of innovative approaches for making effective use of ICT resources. From its inception to 2014, the Roadshow was held 23 times in 18 Caribbean territories. As a result of the relentless pace of technological innovation, the CTU has decided to embark on a new round of Roadshows that reflect the current advances in ICT and the changes in the sector.
Commenting on Digicel’s participation in the Roadshow, Digicel Guyana CEO, Gregory Dean, said; “Our mission is to help create a world where no one gets left behind. That means doing everything we can to help propel the people of the Caribbean to the forefront of the knowledge economy via increased broadband and ICT access and by driving digital adoption. We are happy to be partnering with the CTU in driving the digital agenda.”

Ms. Bernadette Lewis, Secretary General of the CTU has welcomed Digicel to the CTU’s esteemed group of sponsors, noting the need for the public and private sectors to work collaboratively on fostering ICT-enabled Caribbean. Ms. Lewis said “Raising awareness of and educating on the importance of ICT to all citizens is a collective responsibility and I am very pleased that Digicel has joined us in this endeavour.”
With less than two weeks to go, the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Georgetown, will be the focal point for the gathering of ICT policy makers, technocrats, regulators, operators, private sector and civil society representatives, members of the academic fraternity and citizens. There will be sessions for every member of the national community including people with disabilities and the youth of Guyana.
The Roadshow’s activities will extend beyond the Conference Centre with community outreach programmes in Annai and Berbice.
